About IMAR

The company IMARAD INTERIORS, having the registered office in the city of Arad, the first important city of Romania at the entrance from Central Europe, has more than one century of aristocratic tradition in wood carving.

IMARAD INTERIORS was established and developed starting from two factories: the First Furniture Factory of Arad, founded in 1890 by L.E.Lengyel, as the furniture supplier for the Austro-Hungarian Empire Court and the Romanian Royal Court, and during 1985- 1990 it was the main supplier for the House of the Republic, the second being Arad Sawmill, founded in 1923 by A.Cornis.

Custom made Nicolae Ceausescu's Office

S.C Imarad Interiors also manufactured the furniture ordered by the members of the Romanian Communist Party Central Committee, which would be given to Nicolae Ceausescu for his birthday, a one of a kind piece in the world, having particular symbolic meaning.

The furniture is made of hand carved (indented) maple hardwood, comprising of several pieces, more than two metres high and six metres long, a desk and natural leather chair, similar to a throne, truly suitable for a president. Three architects, four designers and 18 sculptors worked in making ‘Nicolae Ceausescu’s office’. The furniture weighs three tons.

Bearing the name ‘Nicolae Ceausescu’s office’ the module comprises of a desk and a bookcase, pieces that would be installed in the dictator’ cabinet. The furniture would be given to Nicolae Ceausescu in 1990, as a gift, on January 2th, on the occasion of his birthday.
